diabetic neuropathy

Diabetic neuropathy is a disease of the central and peripheral nervous system that can occur in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus. Diabetic neuropathy develops differently in different patients and usually over several phases and a longer period of time.

Diabetic neuropathy often develops as a consequence of diabetes mellitus. Approximately 40 percent of patients with diabetes mellitus experience late effects, including diabetic neuropathy.

The exact cause of the disease has not yet been definitively determined. However, elevated blood sugar levels are believed to be a key risk factor. The higher the blood sugar levels, the greater the risk of neuropathy. The risk of nerve damage also increases with the duration of diabetes.

Symptoms can persist and worsen over many years. If left untreated, they can become chronic and interfere with daily life. Symptoms of diabetic neuropathy include:

  • Numbness, tingling, or burning in arms or legs

  • Difficulty with the feeling of temperature

  • Loss of balance

Once neuropathy has developed, it cannot be reversed. Therefore, treatment primarily aims to prevent deterioration, restore quality of life, and reduce symptoms.

The Calmare Scrambler Therapy ® has proven to be a very successful treatment option for neuropathy and can help you relieve these unpleasant sensations.
