Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a form of chronic pain that typically affects an arm or leg. CRPS typically develops after an injury, surgery, stroke, or heart attack.

The exact cause of the disease is still unknown. However, it is often preceded by an injury. Early detection of the disease is extremely important. The earlier the disease is diagnosed and treated, the greater the chances of recovery.

The symptoms of regional pain syndrome are often very distressing and can have both physical and psychological consequences. Those affected suffer from constant headaches, a feeling of heaviness, or discomfort in the affected area. Depression or anxiety symptoms are also common. Typical symptoms of CRPS include:

  • Pain that is disproportionate to the severity of the original injury, ie burning or throbbing pain, usually in the extremities

  • Sensitivity to touch or cold

  • Changes in skin color and texture

  • Changes in hair and nail growth

  • Muscle weakness is noticeable

  • Joint stiffness

  • Muscle cramps

  • Mobility is restricted

  • Weakness and wasting (atrophy)

CRPS can occasionally spread from its origin to other parts of the body.

Calmare Scrambler Therapy® is a very effective treatment option to relieve or eliminate the pain associated with CRPS over a long period of time.
